Terms of Use

Last Updated: May 13, 2019

Accepting the Terms

Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms", "Terms of Service", "Terms of Use") carefully before using the 2019 Quarterly Tax Estimator operated by Jon Paul Miles.

Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, Users, and others who access or use the App.

By accessing or using the App you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms then you may not access the Service.

Terms

  • "We", "us", "our", "2019 Quarterly Tax Estimator", "Service(s)", "App" refer to 2019 Quarterly Tax Estimator, it's associates and affiliates, and the owner Jon Paul Miles whether in a Mobile App on iOS, Android, a Desktop App on the Mac App Store, online website, or other form.

  • A User is simply someone who is accessing the App.

  • "Tax Profile Settings" refers to data entered by the User representing their current tax situation such as filing status, federal allowances, income and withholding estimates, deductions and credits, and the like. This can also include variations of this data per paycheck.

  • Your Data refers to information you have provided this App by manually entering information in our provided fields.

Service Description

If you're a small business or are self-employed, depending on your income and circumstances, you may be required to estimate your income/profit for the year and make portioned tax payments each quarter so that at the end of the year you won't owe any remaining taxes.

Calculating this estimation is sensitive. If you pay too much in quarterly taxes, you will get a bigger refund at the end of the year, but that also means the government is holding onto your earnings which you could have invested during the year to earn interest or spent on other things. However, if you pay too little in estimated payments, that is less than 90% of what was actually due at the end of the year, the IRS may charge you with a penalty for not paying sooner.

As you enter paychecks into this App, it makes educated guesses at what your projected income will be for the year, updating the estimate with each new paycheck and expense entered. Based on it's predictions (or yours if you override its guess), it will roughly calculate how much you need to pay in taxes by the end of the year. On top of that, it will break this total payment down into quarterly payments and recommend an amount of money to set aside from each paycheck so you will have enough to pay these quarterly taxes.

That being said, this App estimates Federal quarterly business taxes only and for the 2019 tax year (filed in 2020) only. It does not include State Taxes and will not estimate any previous or future tax years. If we decide to make a 2020 version, it will be released as a separate app. If you live in a State that requires quarterly payments, you may be required to pay additional taxes that this App does not calculate.

We are not Tax Professionals

This App estimates quarterly taxes by carefully following common tax forms and though we have been careful and studious in our efforts to achieve accuracy, we are not Tax Professionals, Certified Accountants, or Finance Planning Professionals. We do not guarantee the App will be absent of miscalculations or misleading information. We provide no warantee or liability for incorrect estimates, misleading information, or tax calculations. You assume this risk when using the App.

Our tax calculations are not comprehensive

Unfortunately taxes are difficult to calculate, there are many circumstances to consider and complex situations to address. Most people however don't encounter these situations and have fairly straightforward situations.

The App is not comprehensive: meaning it does not cover every possible tax situation. It has been tailored for simple and common situations. Your situation may be unique and not covered by our estimates.

You cannot file taxes with this App

Additionally, you may be required to file a tax return at the end of the year to find out if you owe any additional amount, if you are due a refund, or because you are required to by law according to your circumstances.

This App contains no capabilities to submit, review, or print tax forms. We cannot provide you with any kind of tax ready paperwork to file. We roughly estimate numbers only.

The App does not keep proof of your expenses

If the IRS audits your return, you may be required to provide proof of your business expenses such as photos of receipts. You are required to maintain these in your own records. In some cases, tax software may do this for you. However, this App does not have any abilities to save photos of your receipts or keep any kind of proof of your expenses. You are required to maintain your own private records of these expenses outside of use of this App.

We cannot guarantee estimate accuracy

Taxes are hard to calculate. There are hundreds of lines of calculations which can be performed and rules that bend for different circumstances. Though we strive for accuracy, we do not guarantee the App will not contain any bugs or calculation errors. In accessing this App, you agree to not hold us responsible for inaccurate estimates, resulting damages, or loss due to the App's tax miscalculations or software issues even if you have advised us of the problem.

We recommend considering this App to be a rough estimator tool that will keep you from being too far of the mark on your Federal taxes, but do not rely on it for complete accuracy.

Please do not use this to estimate your employee's wage withholdings.

You are responsible for entering correct information

We cannot provide you accurate estimates unless you are providing correct information in the appropriate fields. You are responsible for maintaining a basic knowledge of tax lingo and conducting research to ensure you are qualified for the deductions you set in the App. You also are responsible for reporting required paycheck, expense, and deduction information to the associated fields.

We hope that we've laid out the fields in such a way that you will find it straightforward to know where to enter correct information. If you do not understand where your information should be entered, you may email the owner and ask how the App is meant to be used. He may reply at his convenience. Please note that we do not offer tax prepration services and asking for tax advice or tax education for your situation is not appropriate. The owner does not get paid to offer tax knowledge and does so out of his generosity. Please respect his time and keep your questions related to how to enter information in the App.

In many cases, the App has provided helpful tooltips to let you know if you are qualified for certain deductions or to know where to put required information. We do not always keep this information up to date and they represent only segments of the instructions the IRS provides. If you wish to research if you are qualified for a tax deduction or credit, we have provided the IRS Form number that you can search in Google and find the instructions. They will provide further information so you can know if you are qualified.

Feel free to request new features

Also note, if you cannot find the correct field to enter information in, it may be a tax situation we don't provide for. Tax laws are always changing and every new tax situation we cover in the App requires ongoing research, updates, and sometimes complete overhauls. We have chosen to limit our features to only those that are most used or requested to make maintaining the App more managable for us.

If you think a tax situation would be worth covering, don't hestitate to send us an email with your recommendations. If we get enough demand for a new feature, we may choose to support it.

We are looking for ways to improve the product experience and make the App more inviting to customers. We appreciate feedback, compliments, or bug reports. Please contact the ower at his email if you wish to provide feedback.

Where we store your data

This App is made entirely without the use of servers owned by us. Of course, you will be using Google Play or the Apple App Store's servers to process your payments, but your actual Tax Profile Settings, Paychecks, Expenses, and Generator Settings remain solely on your Personal Device. We do not keep any copies or even have access to any of your data. This setup has pros and cons. On the one hand, you have much more privacy regarding your tax information which is very personal in nature. On the other, because we cannot see your data, we won't be able to assist you in resolving issues dealing with incorrectly entered information and if you run this App on multiple devices, it is much more cumbersome to keep your data in sync.

Data backups the old fashioned way

In Backups, we have provided you an ability to download a backup of your data in JSON format that may be uploaded into another Device running this App. The data uploaded will fully delete & replace the current data in the App with the data from the backup. If you requested assistance that requires the Owner to be privy to your information, you may email him a copy of this backup that he can upload to his testing Device and provide the needed assistance. We will not give this data to anyone else outside of our team without your written consent and will promply erase this data and all copies we have access to after we have assisted you.

How to erase your data

Information entered into the App is stored in your Device's Local Storage capabilities. This information is not erased when you close the App and must manually be deleted by opening the App, pressing the triple-line menu in the top left, and going to Backups > Wipe all Device Data. Once the data is wiped, it cannot be restored.

Local storage may also be removed by uninstalling the App or clearing the App cache and Data through your Device settings. On Android this is typically under

Settings > Apps & Notifications > 2019 Quarterly Tax Estimator > Storage > Clear Cache or Clear Data

Unfortunately in some cases the Android Clear Cache, Clear Data, or App uninstall may not wipe all your data.

In rare cases, uninstalling the App won't erase you tax data. We recommend manually erasing this data through the App for safe measure.

Note: Apps designed to clean up your phone or free up additional space from outdated files and data may accidentaly erase information you've entered into this App. Please be studious about what information you are erasing as this data cannot be recovered.

If the App is uninstalled, you will likely loose any information you have entered in. Unfortunately we cannot assist in restoring this information as it will likely be permanately lost. However, if you have been diligent at making backups of your data through the App, this information can be restored from a backup.

Loading information from a backup will replace/erase any changes you've made since the last save and replace it fully with the contents on the backup.

Keep your Device secure

Unfortunately, just because we don't have access to your tax data doesn't mean you shouldn't practice good safety measures to protect your Device and it's tax information from unauthorized access. We do not provide any password, finger print, or remote deletion of data services for your information and your backups are fully your responsibility to manage.

You are fully responsible for safeguarding your Device and backups and making sure your data isn't accessed without your authorization. You agree not to hold us responsible for loss, corruption, or unauthorized access of your local tax data.
